Vanessa’s Birth Story

Vanessa’s due date was October 24th 2018. We chose not to find out the gender of our second baby. (I was maybe 80% sure she would be a girl even before I got pregnant).

It was the evening of October 15th. Anthony was asleep and I was laying in bed with Aleksi watching TV getting ready to sleep. I got up to brush my teeth. A funny fact, as I was about to get up a though of my water breaking quickly passed through my head. I got up and there it happened! I felt something! Of course Aleksi said I peed myself but I was sure it was my water breaking. At the moment I wasn’t experiencing any pain but my water was a different story.

In about an hour I started getting some contractions. I decided to go and drop Anthony to my parents house so we can be ready for when the time comes. I took a bath and decided to watch some TV to see what is happening.

Hospital Time

Around 4 am (again) we decided to visit the emergency and see what is happening since my obgyn told me that due to the fast first delivery I should go ASAP. I got checked in and for my surprise I was only 1 cm dilated (Oh no!) They told me to walk around the hospital for some time and they will check me again.

In a couple of hours I went back to be checked just to find out I am now 2 cm dilated but the pain was getting stronger. The nurse told me I should go home relax and come in the afternoon around 3 pm. I was like oh heck no! I told her that the pain is really strong and she let me walk for a bit more. In thirty minutes I went back in. There wasn’t much difference but she said she sees some improvement so they will take me in. With my luck my obgyn was away so someone completely new was going to deliver my baby. I had a nurse who was training. I could tell she wanted to make sure she is doing everything the right way but she was forgetting the most important thing-my progress !!!

This time around I gave in with the epidural way earlier!

The second time around the contractions were way stronger way earlier. They finally decided to check in my progress. First was the senior nurse who then wanted the girl who was learning to check as well. I could tell she wasn’t exactly sure and it felt like she was trying to guess the lottery numbers. I was slowly progressing this time around.

A couple hours later I finally made it to 10 cm (Wohooo!) at around 10:55 am it was time !!! I started pushing, but few pushes and my nurse suggested if I want I can take a break and relax a bit (I guess she wasn’t seeing much progress) but I said no!

Welcome baby GIRL!

At 11:16 am I heard a cry and “It’s a girl!” I couldn’t be more happy, my beautiful baby Vanessa joined our family! The doctor said “You knew what you were doing and good thing you didn’t want to wait!
